The "Winning" Contest

Throughout SEINFELD'S episode in "The Contest", Larry David nailed the jackpot with his creative writing abilities by tying in a promiscuous subject with a family-oriented show. Once again, SEINFELD was dealing with the daily minutae in most everyone's lives. The show never used the word it was describing throughout the entire episode, but came up with clever ways of referencing to it such as, "master of your domain" or "queen of my castle". This episode most likely struck such a cord with viewers because it was one of the first times a television series used masturbation as their main focus, and people were intrigued by it and all the humor that followed. SEINFELD is always referring to sexual things and instances all the time, but this episode reached a whole new limit that was obviously widely accepted and loved.
Even today, the general rule is that "sex sells", and "The Contest" is a prime example of that statement. Larry David somehow managed to write such a humorous episode in a tasteful manner about one subject that is hardly ever displayed in television. Nearly a decade later, the episode still manages to be one of the most popular SEINFELD shows ever aired, and most likely because the audience will never change. People are fascinated by sexual humor and as we clearly saw, this episode is the epitomy of just that.
